The right wing Modi government in India appointed Gajendra Chauhan as the Chairman of prestigious Film and Telivision Institue of India. Chauhan , who doesn’t have any credential to head the institute other than acting as Yudhishtir in serial Mahabharata and in few odd B grade movies, was selected for being close to Hindutva organisation called RSS and BJP. This is part of the attempt by the Indian government to press fascist Hindutva ideology into acadmic institutions across India.

The institute witnessed massive 139 day strike by the students which created a national level conciousness against the appointment. Neumerous students arrested and brutally assaulted by police. Chauhan still remains the Chairperson amid widespread opposition from students, filmmakers and activists.
